Why Dubai works for a short trip from India
Dubai is the easiest "abroad" for most Indian travellers: a 3–4 hour flight, a huge Indian community, food you'll recognise next to food you won't, and a city built to be visited. It's also a lot more than malls. In five days you can stand near the top of the world's tallest building, cross an old trading creek on a wooden boat for pocket change, and end the day on the dunes with dinner under the desert sky.
Route: Dubai Marina & JBR (day 1) → Downtown and the Burj Khalifa (day 2) → Old Dubai (day 3) → Museum of the Future and the desert (day 4) → Abu Dhabi or a slow last day (day 5). Stay in one hotel the whole time — the Metro and taxis make everything reachable.
Most Indian passport holders need a UAE tourist e-visa before they fly. Apply online through your airline or a registered travel agent — it usually takes 3–5 working days. If you hold a valid US visa or green card, or a UK or EU residence permit, you may qualify for a visa on arrival instead. Rules change often, so confirm with your airline before you travel.
Day-by-day itinerary
Pick a hotel near a Red Line Metro station — Al Barsha, Bur Dubai or Deira for value, Downtown or the Marina for views. Hotels add a nightly Tourism Dirham fee (roughly AED 7–20 per room, depending on the hotel) on top of the room rate, so factor it in when comparing prices.

Practical tips
- Dress code: Shorts and T-shirts are fine in malls and at the Marina; cover shoulders and knees in Old Dubai, the souks and anywhere religious. Swimwear is for beaches and pools only.
- Alcohol: Served only in licensed venues such as hotel bars and restaurants, and the legal drinking age is 21. Public drunkenness is taken seriously.
- Getting around: The Metro is clean, cheap and air-conditioned. Load a Nol card, and note the Gold Class carriage costs double and there are cabins reserved for women and children. Careem, Uber and metered RTA taxis cover the rest.
- Photos: Don't photograph people — especially women and families — without asking. Privacy laws in the UAE are strict.
- Ramadan: If your dates fall in Ramadan, be discreet about eating and drinking in public during daylight hours. Evenings, with iftar and late-night markets, are a lovely time to be in the city.
- Heat: Even in winter the sun is strong — carry water and sunscreen. In summer, plan anything outdoors for early morning or after sunset.
- Splitting costs: Log dirham expenses in Tripbae as you go — it converts them to rupees, so settling up back home takes a few UPI payments. Our guide to splitting trip expenses with friends covers the rest.
Dubai trip FAQs
How much does a 5-day Dubai trip cost from India?
Roughly ₹65,000–₹1,10,000 per person before shopping. That covers return flights, the UAE tourist visa, a mid-range hotel shared between two, food, transport and the big-ticket activities. December–January and festival dates push prices up.
Do Indians need a visa for Dubai?
Most do. Indian passport holders usually apply for a UAE tourist e-visa before travelling, through their airline or a registered travel agent, and it typically takes 3–5 working days. If you hold a valid US visa or green card, or a UK or EU residence permit, you may qualify for a visa on arrival instead. Confirm the latest rules with your airline before you fly.
What is the best time to visit Dubai?
November to March, when days are warm rather than scorching and outdoor sights like Global Village and the desert are at their best. From June to September temperatures regularly pass 40 °C, which is fine for malls and indoor attractions but tough for anything outside.
Is 5 days enough for Dubai?
Yes. Five days covers Dubai Marina, Downtown and the Burj Khalifa, Old Dubai's souks, a desert safari and a day trip to Abu Dhabi without rushing. With 3–4 days, drop the Abu Dhabi trip; with a week, add a beach day and a theme park.
